Tonight two of Ian's friends are here for a sleep-over-- Hugh and Joe. They have commandeered the living room and Karen and I are inhabiting the bedroom. She's reading, and in between keystrokes here I'm watching the Giants again flailing in vain against the offerings of the opposing pitching (this time, Edwin Jackson of the Cubs).
I had an idea a few minutes ago. I'm going to include transcriptions of journals and diaries of years past along with whatever present-day musings I may have. I like the idea of putting all such writings in cyberspace for many reasons: it gives them a permanence that they won't have in old-school bound books; I can read them wherever I go in this world of mobile devices; it gives clearer meaning to my blog title (and an idea for an alternate title: Remembrances of Chris Past). One downside comes to mind: I'm liable to reach the 15 gig maximum storage quicker, but that bridge to cross can wait.
When this idea occurred to me, it was originally limited to my college journals. I am already in the process of converting these into Word documents via Dragon speaking software. Why not go a step further and copy from the Word files to the blog? But then it occurred to me: I don't have to limit myself just to the college writings. No, I can upload everything. The diaries I wrote in high school. The travelogues I wrote during both my Europe and Japan sojourns. And many others from then to now; all I can find. Shall I Dragon-ize them first, or transcribe? Transcribe, of course. And I'll start now. Each will have its own blog entry. Here we go...
